A sense of achievement builds a dog's confidence just as it does a human's. Tellington TTouch Groundwork in the Confidence Course develops awareness and confidence as animals work slowly and deliberate through a series of tasks resembling the obstacles on a confidence course. The work enhances focus and concentration, allows behavior patterns such as aggression and timidity to be overcome, and improves physical and mental balance. The Labyrinth , a hallmark of the Tellington TTouch method, improves mobility, coordination, cooperation and balance as the dog and human in partnership negotiate a series of serpentine turns.
An important part of the Groundwork component of Tellington TTouch involves working with the human to achieve a balanced and supple physical frame. Equipment used with dogs in the Confidence Course, such as headcollars, harnesses, and the double-ended leash, is demonstrated in depth.
Prerequisite: Completion of Tellington TTouch Bodywork component. Materials fee: $25. (collected at event, includes workbook in 3-ring binder) Recommended texts for additional insight:

Mindful Dog Teaching: Reflections on the Relationships We Share with Our Dogs by Claudeen E. Mc Auliffe, M.Ed. Mindful Dog Teaching is not a book about training; it's about the relationship that needs to be created in order to establish a foundation for effective training. Based on the concept of eros - engagement, relationship, order, stability - Mc Auliffe presents a framework for interacting with our dogs that facilitates our mutual teaching and learning. Through examples and practice exercises, she helps dog owners go beyond simple obedience to develop a deeper connection with their canine companions.
Are thunderstorms and fireworks sending your dog into a panic? In this highly informative book, Claudeen Mc Auliffe explains how noise fears and phobias develop, and describes several methods and techniques which may be helpful for calming dogs who over-react to noise events. Includes references and resources. (26 pgs.)
